Northern Flicker

Colaptes auratus

"A colorful ground-dweller with a bold soul"

You bypassed the small, subtle songbirds in favor of birds with commanding presence and sharp vision, matching your own wise, spectacled gaze. Like the Flicker, you seem to possess a grounded, textured character—preferring a unique path (like an ant-eating woodpecker) over the typical flock. Your vibrant red shirt mirrors the flash of color this bird hides beneath its wings, revealing a playful energy beneath a steady, bearded exterior.

A note on your bird: it wasn't picked from the 10 you swiped through — those were just the warm-up. It was chosen from our full flock of 100 iconic Canadian birds, matching the pattern of what moved you. That's why it may be one you never met on your journey.
