Downy Woodpecker

Dryobates pubescens

"Rhythmic, persistent, and full of quiet wisdom"

You loved the Northern Flicker but passed on the larger woodpeckers and owls, suggesting you prefer focused, rhythmic energy over raw intensity or mysticism. Your classic glasses and distinguished beard mirror the Downy's sharp, patterned appearance and its steady, industrious nature in the garden.

A note on your bird: it wasn't picked from the 10 you swiped through — those were just the warm-up. It was chosen from our full flock of 100 iconic Canadian birds, matching the pattern of what moved you. That's why it may be one you never met on your journey.
