Spirit bird
Northern Flicker
Colaptes auratus
"A spirited ground-seeker with a hidden glow."
Since you loved the Flicker but passed on the stoic, still owls and eagles, it's clear you resonate with active, high-energy spirits. Your bright, wide-eyed selfie perfectly captures this bird's expressive and playful intensity as it dances through the grass looking for ants.
A note on your bird: it wasn't picked from the 10 you swiped through — those were just the warm-up. It was chosen from our full flock of 100 iconic Canadian birds, matching the pattern of what moved you. That's why it may be one you never met on your journey.
